The Always Iconic Porsche 911 Convertible

When shopping for a high-end sports car, nothing quite compares with the Porsche 911. Since 1963, the gentle curves and impressive rear engine have been turning heads. Now in its eighth generation, the Porsche 911 Convertible is better than ever with several choice trims, an impressive powertrain, and that sexy exterior styling.

Impressive Performance from the Porsche Boxer Engine

The 2022 Porsche 911 Carrera S Convertible specs don’t disappoint. All trims come with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six-cylinder Boxer engine. The base trim delivers 379 horsepower with 331 lb-ft of torque, while the S offers 443 horses with 390 lb-ft of torque, while the Carrera GTS trim has 473 horsepower with 420 lb-ft of torque.

Drivers who want even more can outfit a Turbo S trim with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six Boxer engine that delivers 640 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. However, this model comes with a price tag that is nearly double that of the base trim.

The S and GTS trims can be outfitted with a seven-speed manual transmission, or drivers can stick with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can also choose the standard rear-wheel drive or upgrade to all-wheel drive for better handling in messy weather.

Once you start the Porsche 911 Turbo, you’ll notice the subtle grumble of the Boxer engine and sport-tuned exhaust. Using the Launch Control system gives the drivers what they expect - a quick takeoff with agile handling. Launch control, a dashboard-mounted stopwatch, and other drive modes are included in the popular Sport Chrono package.

Since the 911 is a sports car, drivers should expect the fuel economy to change based on the weight of their accelerator foot. At its best, the 911 gets an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 18/24 MPG.

Plenty of Standard and Available Safety

The standard safety features on the 911 include Forward Collision Warning, Forward Automatic Emergency Braking, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, and a Rearview Camera.

Drivers who want more driver-assistive features can add Adaptive Headlights, Surround-view Parking Camera Systems, Remote Parking Assist, Night Vision Assist, Automatic Parking Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Highway Driving Assist. With these features, the Porsche 911 offers a semi-autonomous driving experience on divided highways.

Well-Equipped Tech and Sound

The tech and infotainment system paired with the convertible Porsche 911 lets drivers appreciate the ride while cranking out the tunes. All 911 models come standard with a 10.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, a Navigation system, a pair of USB ports, and eight speakers.

Drivers who want better sound quality can add a 12-speaker Bose system or a 13-speaker Burmester system - both with surround sound.

On the inside, the tech features include proximity keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and a 7-inch instrument panel. Buyers can add cabin air ionization and ambient interior lighting.

Customizable Styling with Impeccable Porsche Quality

The 911 seats four, with the supportive front sport seats offering the most comfort. All trims come with heated seats, while a heated steering wheel is available on upgraded trims and included in some packages.

The interior has a retro design with contemporary finishes like leather, carbon fiber, and brushed metal. Buyers can mix and match to get the styling they want, and all features offer the quality you’d expect from Porsche.

On the outside, buyers have several color choices including standard colors like red, white, black, and yellow, along with metallic and special colors. The standard convertible top color is black, but drivers can choose cloth top colors like brown, red, blue, and black with a pair of gray stripes.

Porsche puts larger wheels on the rear axle. Drivers can choose 19-inch and 20-inch options or upgrade to 20-inch and 21-inch on the base model. There are enough features to customize that drivers can create a unique Porsche inside and out.
